(WMC TV) - A compounding of no minimum weight requirements and propane suppliers' cost-compensating policies is shorting consumers on the amount of propane they're expecting when they buy or the Exchange grilling cylinders.

The Action News 5 Investigators would have never found out -- if we hadn't been grilling burgers with Richard Rendos.

The Olive Ramification, MS, backyard chef cooks three to four times a week on his gas grill. He meticulously tracks what he cooks each week and how prolonged.

He swears no two 20-lb propane grilling cylinders are ever the same.

"One tank we'll put in, and we won't even get through with grilling one full victuals out here," said Rendos. "Another tank I put in will last me two or three weeks."

Rendos' theory convinced us to surreptitiously leverage nine grilling cylinders, three from each of the three distributors of consumer-marketed propane:  Risqu Rhino, AmeriGas and Gibson Propane (based in Southeast Memphis).

I had this rare grill since Jan 2007, and it is always easy blinding. I use it a lot during the summer here in the north-west of the Pacific - and even a few times during the winter. I use to justify the gas bottles I can find a supermarket nearby - the leaves are a smidgin bigger than the one pictured - and it works clean. The grill exterior is sizeable enough for a kinsfolk of four. Six 1/3 lb. burgers fit well enough; more and they are laborious to ride. I’ve also been talented to do two middling sized tri-tips at once. The lid isn’t gigantic enough to deduct a whole chicken. I was a bit prudent of the 8K BTU rating at first, but the grill heats up reasonable outstanding- it will do a wonderful sear on attractive much anything after 7-10 minutes of preheat. The agitation is also very even, with the as good as whole grill outside usable. The trounce id about the short burner is encouragement competence; 5 lbs. of propane lasts all ready (in SoCal!) at 1-2 uses per week. Please note that this is a one burner grill with a clink-shaped burner. Ancillary cooking isn’t in effect feasible although on low fieriness, one can get bring together enough to do fairness to a tri-tip.

I’ve only got a team a few of matter-of-fact complaints… First, the reinforcement sisterhood for the small tank (at least with the Babe Q) only accepted 14 oz. propane bottles- the description employed with plumber’s torches. They are more overpriced than the 16 oz. bottles hand-me-down for camping. I a moment ago made my own 16 oz. bottle eyelet out of a compact paint hanger. Of undoubtedly with the magnitude tank, this is a non-outlet. The 5 lb. tank (from Harshly Depot) is extremely shallow. Next, the grill is to some thin-skinned to go for broke deflate someone. A proper gust blowing through the sides causes a confirmed wastage of temperature above the grill fa, under the lid. Cooking is still practical but times go up about 30-40%. Last, the holes in the burner can get clogged up, uncommonly when there’s a lot of fluid pouring off the grill fa. I’ve had to ‘unclog’ parts of the burner with a onwards-pin a combine of times now.
