From the first of February to last Wednesday, the amount of a gallon of unleaded gasoline in Boulder and Broomfield counties rose by practically a full dollar.

That stark climb further crimped consumers' wallets, tense some petroleum-reliant businesses and heightened concerns that prices could veil records set in the summer of 2008.

"The gas prices are crazy," said Mike Voigt, president of Boulder Valley Conveyance, a Boulder-based residential and commercial moving business. "I feel for the communal. For us, it has affected our business as well as a lot of others."

Opting to not raise prices during unfavorable cost-effective times, Voigt's company has had to eat the costs, which he estimates to be about 30 percent higher per month than they were at the start of the year.

Businesses such as Boulder Valley Deliver may soon get a slight reprieve: Experts say gas prices could be peaking.

Concentrate prices might not break records this year, yet businesses from a variety of sectors say the sticker give someone a turn from 2008 appears to have changed consumers' behaviors, perceptions and expectations about stimulus costs.
