Could I hook up a propane gas cylinderfor a grill or RV to my natural gas water heater?

 Our main gas busted and we're looking at a few weeks for them to dig up my entry for the fix. I know it costs more but is that what I do?

 Most heaters H manufactures do not recommend converting them.
